Membership Chair

I want to welcome everyone to our membership page. This page will be a part of our chapter’s new website. We hope this new effort will meet the needs of all our members, providing
information, offering encouragement, and adding perspective to AER membership. To begin, I am copying information about membership from our AER International website. You may have seen this before, but I think it points out who we are as AER members, why we are a part of AER, and how we can make our profession better through membership.

WHO SHOULD JOIN AER?

Whether you are an emerging, new, veteran, retired or somewhere-in-between professional in the vision field, AER is right for you. AER offers several membership types that include Individual, Corporate, Retired,
Transitional and Student. Our members include Orientation and Mobility Specialists, Vision Rehabilitation Therapists, TVIs, Low Vision Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Optometrists, Ophthalmologists, Assistive Technology Professionals, Professors, Administrators, Students, Product and Service Businesses, and many other related professionals. Check out the links above on the Membership dropdown menu to learn more about the types of memberships available, the benefits, and to join and renew your membership.

REASONS TO JOIN AER

AER membership is essential for you! Gain that professional edge that you are seeking.

Invest in YOURSELF! Recognizing your existing skills and developing new ones will not only help prepare you for your current role, it will also give you an advantage. When you join a group of like-minded professionals, you gain access to a world of wisdom and experience. You create amazing relationships with people who can help you grow in ways you could never imagine. And, these same colleagues can help you tap into new and exciting opportunities you would otherwise never know existed.

TOGETHER WE ARE STONGER

AER is the only international professional organization dedicated to supporting the professionals who work in education and rehabilitation for children and adults who are blind and visually impaired. AER develops and promotes professional excellence through the support of those who provide services to people with visual impairments by providing professional support, networking, publications, professional development, scholarships, advocacy, benefits, discounts and so much more!
I hope everyone is still with me, and I trust each of you can feel encouraged to participate in AER on a chapter level and at the divisional level, and even at the international level. AER truly offers opportunities for all. AER is a great association, and we can help make it better through our participation. As I close, I want to mention an upcoming note that I’ll be
sending in the near future. I am working on short history of how AER came to be in Alabama. Stay tuned, more is coming.
